In 2014, Thales and Obeo launched the Eclipse Capella open source project. Seven years later, the Capella solution is now comfortably installed on the market for industrial systems architecture solutions, with several hundred user organisations on all continents.
Originating from a collaboration that began several years ago between the large international engineering corporation and a young start-up from Nantes, Capella is a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tool enabling the architecture of complex systems in the aerospace, transport, health and telecoms sectors, to be defined.
In this talk, we will look at the genesis of the project and the strategy implemented for making it open source. In particular, how Thales and Obeo are working closely to further develop Capella, to ensure it is promoted on an international level and to build a rich and diverse ecosystem that is able to support discovery, adoption and deployment initiatives.
